Frequently Asked Questions

What is Toastmasters Antwerpen?

Toastmasters Antwerpen provides a supportive and positive learning environment, in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills. By learning how to effectively formulate and express clear ideas, an entirely new world of possibilities will be opened, which will foster self-confidence and personal growth. You will be able to become more persuasive and confident in giving presentations and improve your one-to-one dealings with others.

How does it work?

There are prepared and unprepared speeches and evaluations in a typical Toastmasters meeting. Constructive feedback on strengths and points of improvement will be also provided after each speech.

When and where do the meetings take place?

We meet every first and third Thursday of the month at 20h00 (sharp!). Current meetings are held hybrid which means that our members have the option to join online or offline based on their wishes. The fixed location of the meetings is De Groene Waterman. The summer meetings are always held in various outdoor locations.

How can I become a member?

To become a member of our club, you can send us an email indicating your wish to join us as a member. This will be followed by an email from us with all necessary information, including payment requirements and a registration form to be filled in and sent back as soon as possible.

If you haven't done so yet, you can join one meeting for free as a guest.

How often can I come as a guest?

As a guest, you are allowed to visit our club only once before you need a membership. Due to large interest, we are not able to provide the opportunity to visit us twice. The meetings usually have the same structure, so you should be able to get a clear idea of a Toastmasters meeting after having attended one meeting.

What is expected from me as a member?

As Toastmasters is focused on personal growth, we expect our members to be active in meetings (an attendance of 50% = 1 meeting each month is recommended). We would like to support you to take up roles and be an active part of our club. This is also in your own interest as you will be able to learn the most when you take the stage yourself as much as possible. As soon as you become a member, we will organize an introduction session to provide you with more information on the roles.

What development path will I take?

There are different learning paths to choose from, ranging from Presentation Mastery, over Persuasive Influence to engaging Humor or Leadership Development. Each path consists of 10 different projects that you need to execute in order to be able to learn and grow. An example: every member will start with an icebreaker speech. This is the first speech that you will give you the opportunity to introduce yourself and share something with your fellow club members so they can get to know you better. More information will follow once you have become a member.

Which languages do you speak at the club?

We are a bilingual club for English and Dutch, so you our member give speeches in whichever of those languages they prefer.
